Temple Israel is a community that strives to be very supportive during times of loss.  Please let Rabbi Liben, Cantor Richmond, or the office know when you or someone in your family is sick, and when one of your loved ones has passed away.  Rabbi Liben (or Cantor Richmond if Rabbi Liben is away) will meet with the family to plan the memorial service.  The shiva committee will provide a meal, and the temple will lend prayer books and provide leaders for minyan in the home.

Here is a copy of our guide to Jewish Funerals and Mourning Practices.

Here is a recording of the Mourner’s Kaddish and here are the words.

Here is a recording of Psalm 23 (music composed by Cantor Richmond) and the Eil Malei Rachamim Memorial Prayer (and version 2 or version 3).  Here are more settings of Psalm 23, with music by Ben Zion Shenker and Gerald Cohen.

This document may be useful at an unveiling, and this one at a funeral.  Here is a text in Hebrew and English of the Eil Malei Rachamim memorial prayer.
