The Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs (FJMC) has embarked on effort to encourage the use of personalized Haftarah scrolls for B’nai Mitzvot and other occasions such as Auf Rufs and special birthdays. These scrolls are written by scribes in Israel and include the trope cantalation symbols and vowels. The scrolls are beautiful and are suitable for framing after the event. At the top, they are inscribed with the Hebrew and English name of the B’nai Mitzvah and the date of actual event.

A Haftarah scroll makes a fabulous gift for grandparents to give and for friends to chip in and purchase as a group. Rather than pitching in for the ephemeral IPod, contribute to a gift that will truly last. G-d willing the B’nai Mitzvah will still be using the scroll on the 50
anniversary of his/her B’nai Mitzvah and maybe his/her children and grand children will have the honor of reading from it. Having one’s own scroll provides a great motivation for finding a shul and reading one’s Haftarah on a B’nai Mitzvah anniversary.

Scrolls take about six weeks to produce. They are shipped to your door in a canister. A photocopy is included for using while practicing. Cantor Richmond is excited about helping students read from the scroll. The cost of a scroll is $400.
